OFCAF Grazing Field Days – Grassy Plains

Monday, October 7th, 2024 – 1p.m.-5:p.m.

Join the BC Forage Council at Tatalrose Ranch for a hands on learning experience with mentors and producers from across the region.

Topics include:

  • Livestock Watering Systems (new dugouts, solar waterer, electric fencing, planting willow)
  • Nose-pump System
  • Fertigation
  • Relay Cropping and 
  • Seeding Clover to Extend Stand Life

Light snacks and beverages will be provided, and we have a bag of cover crop seed to give away as a door prize! The event is free, but registration is required. More details and directions will be provided to registrants before the event.


BC Living Labs Cattle and Forage Field Day- Grand Forks

Pa-Van Ranch in Grand Forks, BC, Friday, September 27th, 2024 – 10a.m.-1:p.m.

Join us to explore the use of corn and multi-species cover crops for extended fall grazing. Our ranch host Devin Chursinoff and agrologist Mike Witt (PAg, CCA, Forage Based Solutions) will share their experiences, and you’ll get to see the results in the field.

This is a free event, but registration is required.


OFCAF Grazing Field Days – Kootenays

BC Forage Council with the Kootenay Boundary Farm Advisors are delivering 3 field days this August – depending on location topics discussed will include pasture and forage stand improvements, grazing strategies and equipment.

BC Living Lab Cattle and Forage Field Day – Bar-K Ranch – Prince George BC

Sunday, August 25, 2024 – 9a.m. to 1:30p.m.

Join us in the morning at Bar K Ranch to learn about the research trial on extending the grazing season, including the use of cover crops, focus on soil quality, and more! In the afternoon we will head to Ness Lake Nursery to look at the OFCAF Demonstration Site, including electric fencing and portable watering equipment.

2024 Online Grazing Club (FREE)

Join this province-wide interactive advanced grazing club to learn how to complete a Grazing Management Plan!

The goal of the club is to provide additional resources to producers who want to enhance their grazing system. The club will complement the national Advanced Grazing System online course, as well as focus on how to implement these concepts in a BC context, through hands-on activities, answering questions, and building a network of support as well as access resources to develop your own Grazing Management Plan which can be used to apply for OFCAF’s cost-share funding.


BC Living Lab Cattle & Forage Winter Webinar Series

Introducing the BC Living Lab Cattle & Forage Winter Webinar Series! 🌿🐂

The first webinar in the series ‘BC Living Lab, the Role of Soil Carbon and Soil Health and On-Farm Practices’. The webinar is an opportunity to learn about the research being undertaken on BC Ranches through BC Living Labs.

In addition, learn about managing soil carbon for improved soil health and the considerations when testing new practices on your farm and ranch. Hear from Dr. Kirsten Hannam, Dr. Shabtai Bittman, Paul Devick, TRU and UNBC researchers.

Islands Agriculture Show

BC Grazing Mentors Graeme and Rob will be at the Islands Agriculture Show discussing OFCAF’s advanced grazing systems programs, mentorship and educational opportunities through FaRM, and demoing some serious hardware (Razer Grazer™) for the Vancouver Island community. If you’re in town, come say hi!

The Islands Agriculture Show is happening February 2nd and 3rd at the Cowichan Exhibition Fair Grounds.
