Join Brian Dougherty, consultant with Understanding Ag, as he shared practical strategies for integrating livestock into crop production systems to enhance both farm productivity and profitability. With 17 years managing his family’s Iowa dairy farm and advanced degrees in ecological engineering and agricultural biosystems, Brian specializes in soil health, nutrient management, and leveraging soil biology to improve farm profitability and environmental outcomes. In this session, Brian explored how farmers and ranchers can successfully transition to regenerative agriculture practices through livestock-crop integration. He covered practical approaches to integrating livestock on cropland, soil health benefits and nutrient cycling improvements, economic considerations and profitability outcomes, and strategies for leveraging soil biology for better farm performance. This session was hosted by the BC Forage Council at Williams Lake TRU on November 21st, 2024, offered both in-person and virtually.
